A check for $3,000 has been presented to St. Luke Foundation by Marion Community Day Care Center board members. Greg Bowers, treasurer of Marion County Hospital District No. 1, accepted the check on behalf of the Foundation. The funds came from the sale of day care equipment and buildings. A check for more than $1,300 also was presented to Marion city commissioners. Funds will be used for the growing recreation commission project.
Julie Sellers, a senior at Marion High School, has been named a “Commended Student,” in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Sellers is the daughter of Robert and Leah Sellers of Florence.
Dick Varenhorst and Madelyn Vogel portrayed Dwight and Mamie Eisenhower Oct. 1 in a style show honoring the 100th anniversary of Gen. Eisenhower’s birth. The event was sponsored by Coterie, Neo-Century, and 20th Century clubs.
German exchange students Wolfgang Schlichter and Melanie Hoop are juniors studying at Marion High School. Schlichter is staying with the Doug and Jo Helmer family. Hoop is living with the Joyce Ford family.
