City of Marion workers checked holiday clear lights on downtown buildings Friday. They also put up Santa’s house and Christmas decorations in the lot between Duckwall’s and Marion True Value Hardware.

Jeff Jackson, son of Dave and Vicki Jackson, has purchased the Owl Car Café from Stan and Donna May. It will re-open Sunday noon.

Carol A. Johnson, M.D., has been named director of the University of Kansas School of Medicine family practice residency program at Wichita. Johnson is the daughter of Harold and Jessie Bowers of Marion and a graduate of Marion High School.

The Centre football team clinched its first-ever state championship berth with a 22-14 victory Friday of Pleasanton. The Cougars play Saturday against Northern Valley at Lewis Field, Fort Hays State University, for the eight-man division state championship.

Dickinson County Attorney Dee James of Abilene will be speaker at the annual Marion Chamber of Commerce Farm-City Appreciation Night scheduled for Monday at Marion City Building.

Five Marion football players earned all CVL first-team honors. Three earned honors both defensively and offensively. Offense honors went to Darrel Tajchman, John Wheeler, Eric Kannady, and William Teufel. Wheeler, Teufel, and Kannady also were named to first team defense honors.
