Marion Chamber of Commerce has submitted an application to host the 1991 series of Chautauqua, a prestigious five-day program of historical and literary presentations held annually throughout the Midwest.
Final remodeling will start soon on the city clerk’s office at the Marion City Building, converting it to the city commission room and office for the Marion Chamber of Commerce.
Marion’s boys’ basketball team placed second in the Chapman tournament, but Eric Kannady was named most valuable player. Kannaday and Justin Grimmett were named to the all-tournament team and Matt Holub placed second in freshman free throw competition.

Centre High School’s Hi-Q team brought home a first place trophy from the WIBW tournament in Topeka Saturday. Members of the team are John Rziha, Mike Svoboda, Jolene Hanschu, Jason Lueker, and Denise Klenda.
Births announced in this issue included Kacey Dean Hanschu, son of Lyle and Carol Hanschu of Lost Springs, born Nov. 28 at Salina and Jordan David Bowers, son of Brian and Shelinda Bowers of Mission, born Dec. 1 in Lawrence.
