Marion Kiwanians Frank Holub, Ty Zeiner, and Leland Heidebrecht are pictured as they slice dozens of sausage patties for the annual Kiwanis pancake breakfast Saturday. Funds raised from the breakfast go to help support Kiwanis programs throughout the year.

The 40th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Will Helmer is Dec. 15. No formal celebration is planned, but there will be a family gathering in honor of the occasion.

Hope Spain is pictured sitting amid a sea of quilts she has made for her grandchildren during the past two years. Spain will present 10 quilts to her grandchildren at an annual family reunion this weekend in Florence.

Centre High School football player Jason Stika has been named to the prestigious Kansas Shrine Bowl. Stika will play on the West Squad.

Lawrence Winkley mixed a small packet of tiny turnip seed in with his alfalfa seed and is pictured with the results, two three-pound turnips.

A public contest was held recently to suggest a new name for the nursing home at St. Luke Hospital. Members of the Board of Directors of Marion County Hospital District No. 1 will hear the name at their Thursday meeting.

Saturday is the deadline to send in a request to attend governor-elect Joan Finney’s inauguration Jan. 14. Invitations will be mailed the day after Christmas.
