Jack and Vernie Beaston will receive public recognition Friday night when they are featured on the Hatteberg’s People segment of the 10 p.m. news KAKE, Channel 10. Hatteberg was in Marion Monday shooting the story, which will explain how Beaston Market provides valuable service to the community, especially the elderly, with daily door-to-door delivery.

Steph Burkholder of Marion will participate in the Heart of America All-Star Sprints Jamboree March 23 in Salina.

Florence Middle School eighth grade students will present the musical “Teen” Thursday night in Florence gymnasium. All eighth graders will perform. Major characters include J.W. Goering, David Rowe, Ben Bowers, Jodi Smith, Katrina Hancock, and Laura Cupps.

County EMS director JoAnn Knak presented her monthly report at the Monday meeting of the county commissioners. County ambulances made 37 runs in February, including six heart attacks, one car accident, and nine fire standbys.

A feature in this issue written by the Chase County Historical Society, tells of the death of famous Notre Dame coach, Knute Rockne, and seven others 60 years ago, March 31, 1931, in a plane crash in a remote Flint Hills pasture near Bazaar in Chase County.
