During the summer months, law enforcement officers in Florence, Peabody, Hillsboro, and Marion recorded license numbers of motorists wearing shoulder belts. Those found wearing the belts were awarded prizes that included gift certificates to various restaurants and video film providers, also sun visors from Marion Auto Supply, and ice scrapers, donated by Western Associates.
Centre High School football homecoming queen candidates are Paige Brunner, Lorell Hanson, Amy Erickson, and Jennifer Makovec. Candidates to be the queen’s escort are Corey Kepler, Kacey Nickel, David Rudolph, and Ryan Spohn.
Craig Hanson was installed Monday as president of Marion Kiwanis Club for 1991-1992. Also installed were Jim Chamberland, first vice president; Matt Newhouse, second vice president; Jim Crofoot, immediate past president; Bud Hannaford, secretary; and Gene Winkler, treasurer.
Jennifer Vantuyl was selected as Student of the Month for September by Marion High School faculty. A senior, Jennifer is the daughter of Larry and Mary Vantuyl of Florence. She plans to attend Kansas State University and pursue a degree in industrial engineering or computer science.
Members of the Marion County chapter of Kansans for Life formed a life chain alongside US-56 near the Canada corner Sunday as part of a nationwide abortion protest.
