The construction project to expand Marion Elementary School could start in January. As Marion Unified School District Board of Education members unanimously agreed to open bids Dec. 17.

Larry’s Shoes is now open with a full range of footwear. Store owners Larry and Cindee Bucher were welcomed Thursday by Marion Chamber of Commerce ambassadors Martin Tice and Dick Varenhorst. The store is located at 330 East Main in downtown Marion.

Gerald Wiens, son of Harold and Mary Ann Wiens of Marion and 1969 graduate of Marion High School, has co-authored a new book entitled “Kansas Wildlife.” Wiens has scheduled a book-signing session Dec. 1 at Marion City Library.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive by fire truck at 2 p.m. Sunday at Marion Municipal Building and will hand out bags of Christmas treats to their little friends.

Seven Marion High School football players filled 10 positions on the Cottonwood Valley all-league first team. Named to first team offense were Jim Cyr, John Wheeler, Jeff Soyez, and Thurston Thies. Named to first team defense were Wheeler, Alan Meisinger, Jason May, and Sam Petersen.

A stained glass window created by Vickie Hoffer of Marion has been installed in the St. Luke Hospital and Living Center chapel. The same image of three fleurs-de-lis and a dove is also used on Christmas cards now available at St. Luke Hospital.
