Bernie Hayen, a Kansas League of Municipalities official, spent Monday speaking to students at Marion High School, and spoke in the evening at the Marion Chamber of Commerce annual membership banquet. He encouraged members to build a confident and progressive vision of the future of the betterment of Marion. Hayen noted he was born in Marion and now lives in Manhattan.
Marion County Commission will consider redistricting the county in an effort to produce more equal numerical representation to comply with state law. Commissioners Charles Deforest and Leon Suderman and commission-designate Linda Peterson, crunched numbers Monday to come up with equal population in each district.
Senior Crystal Hicks, daughter of Earl and JoAnn Hicks of Marion, has been selected as student of the month for January by the high school faculty.
Mr. and Mrs. Mike Connell of Marion announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Dena Michelle, to Gregory Douglas Tice, son of Mr and Mrs. Martin Tice of Marion. The couple will be married May 30 at Marion Christian Church.
Cheerleaders Amy Linnens of Florence, a senior at Marion High School, and Jenny Groening of Marion, an eighth-grader at Marion Elementary School performed Jan. 11 at the annual Collegiate All-star Hula Bowl football game in Hawaii.
