The corner of Main and Lincoln streets in Marion was the site of construction work Friday as crews installed cable for the Technology Excellence in Education Network, an interactive television system linking five area high schools, The system is scheduled to be online this fall for students to use at Marion, Herington, Centre, Hillsboro, and Peabody high schools.

Bown Corby School continues to be used for educational purposes, though not by Marion Unified School District. The building, now owned by the city of Marion, was remodeled by Butler County Community College for classroom use and provides instruction daily for students from a wide area.

Dane J. Christensen, son of John and Diana Christensen of Cottonwood, Arizona, has been commissioned a second lieutenant upon graduation from the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado. He is a grandson of Lynn and Wilma Christensen of Marion.

Brian Bina, 8-year-old son of Laverne and Harriet Bina of Marion, competed July 10 in the Karate Kansas Nationals tournament and won a first place trophy for forms.

Jeff Burkholder has been named assistant vice president-bank manager of Emprise Bank in Wichita. Jeff is a 1984 graduate of Marion High School and a 1988 graduate of Emporia State University. He is the son of Bill and Shirley Burkholder of Marion.
