Marion businesses and members of the community are asked to help “spiff-up” for the visit Saturday of Jake Heuyett, who is producing a video for “Prairie People.” Marion is one of 13 south-central Kansas communities involved in this promotional program.

A cash fund has been established to benefit the Geren family, victims of a tragic accident on US-56 Friday night.

At the annual meeting of the Sunflower Chapter, American Red Cross, Sept. 14 in McPherson, Kevin Weigart and Daniel and Matthew Bryant of Marion received certificates in recognition of quick thinking on Nov. 8, 1992, to administer CPR in an attempt to save the life of Glen Matthews. Daniel also received a personal letter of commendation from Elizabeth Dole, president of ARC.

The Cowboy Jubilee at Clover Cliff Ranch on US-50 near Elmdale attracted more than 350 persons Sunday afternoon.

Marion High School player Brendan Kraus is pictured as he attempts to make a diving catch of a Brian Loomis pass during Friday’s game against Chase County. This pass did not connect, but Kraus did score a touchdown on a fumble recovery during the 41-6 win.

Centre High School has named Rita Stuchlik as outstanding student in mathematics/science and computer science. Stuchlik has been designated as a Tandy Scholar, a program sponsored by the Tandy Corporation and administered by Texas Christian University.
