Forty-five Marion High School students were honored for academic achievement Monday evening at the Marion Kiwanis Club’s annual honors banquet. Students were recognized for being on the honor roll each of the three nine-week periods.

Amy Smith’s subject of this week’s column, “They made a difference,” is Fred Moffitt of Tampa. Moffitt retired in 1973 after serving for 37 years at the window of the United States post office in Tampa.

Students from Florence Middle School and Marion High School participated in a community service day Friday. About 60 jobs were completed in Marion.

FFA members Jason Kruse, Aaron Helmer, and Nathan Hoffman are pictured as they paint house numbers on curbs on Cedar Street. This was a part of the FFA’s community service day project.

Chamber of Commerce ambassadors Marlin and Debbie Buchholz are pictured as they present a first dollar of profit plaque to Judy Powers of Luta Creek Photography. Powers operates an in-home studio at 115 Elm.
