Recent news about President Nixon’s funeral prompted local people to remember family connections with the burial of another president. W.H. Gilbert, grandfather of Lester and Lawrence Gilbert and Verna Gilbert Propp, was one of the men given the duty of guarding the body of assassinated President Abraham Lincoln in 1865.

Vo-ag instructor Mark Meyer is the week’s Teacher of the Week. In addition to his teaching duties, Meyer is assistant football coach and FFA sponsor.

Marion boy, girl, and cub scouts recently were presented with camping equipment, courtesy of the Coleman Co., Wichita. They received five tents, six lanterns, five stoves, a 16-piece enamel cook set, eight sleeping bags, a five-gallon jug, and a 68-quart cooler.
