A meeting was called March 20 to try to hammer out a compromise between disgruntled truckers who feel law enforcement officers often unduly ticket them and Marion County residents disgusted by the urine and manure spilled onto highways and city streets. As a result of the meeting, Marion County’s complaints have been echoing in the chamber of the House Federal and State Affairs Committee of the Kansas Legislature.

Despite the cold weather, Jessey Hiebert and several friends celebrated his 13th birthday after school March 15 at Central Park. Those presented were Jerry Hess, Ty Waner, Robin Summervill, Eric Kline, Jennifer McLain, Shannon Kline, Neil Hett, Rick Lange, Sheri Plenert, Ed Zeller, Andy Hett, Eric Thies, Charlotte Thies, and Mickey and Brad Druse.

Mr. and Mrs. J.T. Taylor announce the engagement of their daughter, Diana Taylor, to Rodney Richmond, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Richmond of Marion. A May 19 wedding is planned.

Cub Scout Pack 102’s paddleboat races Monday night in the American Legion hall created a big splash with the scouts and parents. Charlie Helmer’s boat won first place; Corey Darrow’s, second; Shad Winter’s, third; and Garrett Varenhorst’s fourth. Stacey Sawyer’s craft received the Best Design award.
