Surveyors for Kansas Department of Transportation have begun preparations for staking rights-of-way for the proposed rerouting of U.S.-56. A local spokesman for KDOT said department workers have been contacting area landowners for permission to stake across their property. The staking is a necessary step for KDOT adjustors to begin purchasing rights-of-way.
Emergency medical services director Joann Knak is pictured as she presents Terry Holt with the “Volunteer of the Year” award on behalf of the American Red Cross. Holt, a park ranger with the U.S. Corps of Engineers, is a CPR instructor and emergency medical technician.
Howard Collett, a lifelong county resident and teacher for 25 years, has announced that he plans to practice law in Marion. Collett, who graduates from law school at Washburn University this spring, will work from the Westerhaus Law Office at 500 E. Main, but will not be a partner in the Westerhaus firm.
Sherry Classen, bride-elect of Dr. James Bureman, was feted at a “silver” shower April 30 at the home of Jean Case. Other hostesses were Lavonne Hannaford, Pat Longhofer, Cleo Loomis, and Billie Slusser.
Jeffrey Conyers, a graduating senior at Marion High School, has been awarded the Dean of Engineering Scholarship at Kansas State University. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Conyers.
