Senator Robert Dole, regarded as one of the powerful figures in the United States, will be the speaker Sunday afternoon in Central Park when Marion High School will celebrate its Centennial Graduation. The first graduating class received diplomas in 1884 and the class of 1984 has been designated as the Centennial Class.
Ty Zeiner, a native of Minneapolis, has joined the staff of Thompson-Harp Funeral Home in Marion. He will work as a funeral director and embalmer.
Mary Ann Kohls will present 60 of her students in Mary Ann’s School of Dance in a performance May 20 at the Veterans Hospital in Wichita.
A $100 scholarship has been presented to Annette Kline by the local Business and Professional Women’s’ Club. The daughter of John and Karen Kline, she plans to study nursing at Hesston College.
The following births are announced this week: Benjamin Huna Holub, son of Rod and Candy Holub of Manhattan, born April 30; Kelsey Landon, daughter of Debbi and Kevin Craig of Marion, May 12; and Amy Michelle and Abby Elizabeth, twin daughters of Stacy and Joni Smith of Lincoln, Neb., May 13.
Marion High School will send four athletes to the state track meet. April Ogden, Leann Snelling, Bill Shirley, and Mike Bina made it past the 16-school eliminator. Several other Warriors placed at the meet by failed to qualify. The top three in each regional event are tapped for state.
