Marion County Commissioners on Monday continued their discussion of a proposal for a countywide sales tax. The discussion followed review of a resolution passed recently by Hillsboro city council calling for a half-cent county sales levy.
More than 1,000 alumni, graduates, friends, and family turned out for the commencement exercise of Marion High School’s 1984 senior class Sunday in Central Park. The event was the 100th MHS commencement. Aline Frazer Kieferle, 97, class of ’06, was the oldest graduate returning. Matt Wineinger was named valedictorian for 1984 and also the outstanding senior boy. Daniel Bowers and Cyndi Woerz shared salutatorian honors. Janet Hett was named outstanding senior girl.
Jandee Smith and Patrick E. Moore exchanged double ring marriage vows April 28 in Eastmoor United Methodist Church.
Janice Wiens, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wiens, Marion, graduated May 12 from Saint Mary of the Plains College with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing.
Jayson Hanschu and Jody Mueller, students at Centre High School, have been selected to receive the U.S. Army Reserve National Scholar/Athlete Award for 1984. Hanschu maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average and lettered in football, basketball, and track. Mueller maintained a 3.7 grade point average and lettered in volleyball and basketball.
