Marion Kiwanis Club has announced the theme for the 1983 Old Settlers’ Day Parade, “Dedication to Education — 100 Years of Graduates.” The theme was selected to honor education as a positive goal and to honor the 100th graduating class from Marion High School.
A 22-year-old Marion man was injured Monday morning when he was caught in a load of casing pipe, which had fallen from a truck. The man, George Luna, fell from the truck with the pipe and lay trapped for more than 30 minutes before rescuers could extricate him.
After more than two months of detouring, traffic is flowing smoothly over the new Third Street Bridge at the south edge of Marion. The project was officially accepted last week by KDOT engineers.
Hot weather in the area has put a strain on the city’s water supply, but Marion officials say it is still too early to require rationing.
Two Marion area ranchers have received recognition for having several of their cattle listed on the American Hereford Association’s high fertility and offspring growth register. Marvin Meisinger and Rex. L Siebert, both of Marion, had several cattle in their herd named on the list, which is compiled by the American Hereford Association.
