The valve was opened Wednesday on what promises to be a fruitful water supply for Marion residents. During the past week, water from a two-inch tap has been flowing into a drainage pond near the city shop. Purpose of the flow is to flush out more than three miles of pipeline running from Marion Lake to the city’s water treatment plant. Local customers should get their first sip of reservoir water by the end of the week.

Memorial Fountain in Central Park was vandalized Monday night. Reportively some girls poured soap into the fountain’s pool. Money spent to remedy such thoughtless pranks could be better spent.

Ron Ludwig, president of Ludwig Truck Line at Florence, has been selected as a member of the farm-to-market carrier division board of directors of the Kansas Motor Carriers Association.

Classes reporting reunions during Old Settlers’ weekend included the Class of 1928 (55 years), Class of 1933 (50 years), Class of 1938 (45 years), Class of 1943 (40 years), and the Class of 1958 (25 years).

Twenty students from JoAnn Good’s German classes at Marion and Hillsboro high schools attended the Oktoberfest at Joyland Park in Wichita Saturday.

A formal groundbreaking ceremony will be held Thursday for the 24-unit housing complex for the elderly at Florence. The site is at Ninth and Barker streets.

Jan Bryant, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Bryant, and Darin Helmer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Helmer, exchanged double ring wedding vows Sept. 17 in a ceremony at Valley United Methodist Church
