Marion residents may have noticed that it takes less soap in the washing machine and that dishes sparkle a bit more. It is the result of better quality water coming from the federal reservoir.

About 25 people, including city officials, attended a brief groundbreaking ceremony in Florence Thursday at the site of a municipal housing project for low-income people.

Mayor Peggy Blackman was surprised last week during the annual convention of the League of Kansas Municipalities. Delegates at the statewide meeting elected her vice president of their organization.

Trailways has discontinued bus service at Florence and Peabody. The only bus service in Marion County is provided by Trans State Trailways with daily service in both directions at Marion and Hillsboro.

Marion County Record editor Bill Meyer will teach students in the graphic design department at Wichita State University on Thursday, Oct. 20. He will instruct them in video display terminal procedures for computerized typesetting.

Lt. Col. Wayne Thies of Marion participated in an Army Reserve mobilization exercise in Wichita Saturday and Sunday. The exercises, called GOSHAWK 1 tested the ability of selected U.S. Army Reserve units to respond to a national call-up.

Randy Crane, Caldwell, has been hired as assistant farm manager with the Scully Estates Office in Marion. Crane will assist in the management, leasing and conserving of the rented real estate and ranch owned in Marion and Dickinson counties by Scully Estates Limited Partnership and William Scully.
