The first major winter storm of the season has already left its mark across most of Kansas. In Marion County, the frigid temperatures and snow were accountable for at least five highway accidents and three injuries.
The Ramona State Bank will move to Hillsboro. Approval for the move was granted Monday at the Kansas State Banking Board’s meeting in Topeka. Bob Arnold, president of the bank, said the bank would probably be called Hillsboro State Bank when it is moved.
Myron Frans, a native of Marion, is now associated with the law firm of Miller and Chevalier in Washington, D.C. A May graduate of the University of Kansas Law School, he is the son of Fern Palmer of Marion and the late Charles Frans.

Administrators from five area school districts cast a firm vote Thursday to keep the Cottonwood Valley League solvent. Solvency of the CVL came under question two months ago when Berean Academy announced its withdrawal in lieu of membership in the Heart of America League. That action was followed by offers of membership from the Mid-Kansas League to three of the five remaining CVL schools. Talks are expected to continue.
