New sirens were placed in Marion this past week by city crews. Pictured is one set on N. 3rd St. across from Marion Municipal Building. The other went up on W. Main St. The sirens will be tested periodically between 12:30 and 1 p.m.
Edwin M. Wheeler, Washington, D.C., will be speaker May 24 at Marion High School baccalaureate and commencement ceremonies. Wheeler, a native of Marion, owns a consulting service in Washington.
Butler County Community College’s men’s basketball coach Randy Smithson will be guest speaker Thursday at Marion Kiwanis Club’s athletic banquet in Marion Gym.
American Legion Post No. 22 announces the selection of three students from Marion High School to attend Boys’ State this summer. They are Michel Soyez, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Soyez; Micah Hanson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Craig Hanson; and Thurston Thies, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Thies.
At Marion City Men’s Bowling Association’s annual meeting and awards banquet May 6, it was announced that Bob Brooks is this year’s inductee into the MarBowl Lanes Bowling Hall of Fame. Brooks was instrumental in getting MarBowl Lanes built and the local bowling association started. During his 30 years with the association, he has served as league and association officer many times.
