National Teachers Hall of Fame at Emporia State University honored its five 1995 inductees this past weekend. The winners and several past winners were at Jim Donahue’s Clover Cliff Bed and Breakfast near Elmdale for lunch and an abbreviated tour Friday. They also visited Strong City and the Z-Bar Ranch.

Joel Thomas, 12-year-old son of Patti and Tom Thomas of Marion, went to New York City over Memorial Day weekend to sing in a North American Children’s Choir at Carnegie Hall. A total of 675 children from the United States and Canada participated.

Butch’s Diner in Tampa is subject of this week’s installment in an “Eating Around the County” series by staff writer Brenden Sager.

The diner, housed in the former Tampa State Bank building, was purchased in 1980 by Butch and Phyllis Mueller, who operated it until shortly before Butch’s death in 1994.

Present owners and operators are Marvin and Maggie Meisinger.

Marion’s annual basketball camp with Bob Chipman of Washburn University will return July 10 to 12 at Marion High School’s gym. Any student age 7 to 18 will be welcome.

Marion’s Children’s Theater will present “Velveteen Rabbit” July 12 and 13 at Holy Family Parish Activity Center. No admission fee will be charged, but donations will be accepted.
