Marion Chamber of Commerce president Jerry Cady cuts a ribbon while owner / operator Tena Reid holds a bow marking change of ownership and opening of the newly redecorated Heartland Café in the former Dari Palace across from Central Park in downtown Marion.

Two graduates of Marion High School will be among those playing in the Kansas State University marching band during the Holiday Bowl game at San Diego. They are Kristin Groening, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Groening, and William Teufel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Teufel.

A party is planned New Year’s Eve for members of Marion Country Club and their guests. Committee members in charge of the evening are Roger and Sally Hannaford, Mike and Judy Powers, Kevin and Vicki Hoffer, Doug and Lavonne Sharp, and Bruce and Belinda Skiles.

Florence Middle School students who meet academic and attendance requirements are eligible for a cash award from the middle school’s Parents Advisory Council.

Recent recipients include Blake Conyers, Steven Janzen, John Karhoff, Melissa Moffitt, Keri Richmond, Audra Waner, Sarah Versch, and Sara Zogelman.

Virgil and Mary Enos of St. Luke Living Center look through gifts provided Dec. 19 by Marion County Lake Chat and Dine Club.

Club members Betty Crumrine and Mary Laughlin delivered the gifts to Living Center and Marion Manor residents. They purchased the items from Marion Health Mart Pharmacy and let each resident choose one.

The project was a way to wish longtime residents a Merry Christmas and let them know they are appreciated, Crumrine said.
