Emergency medical services director JoAnn Knak told county commissioners Monday that she had 90 part-time emergency medical technicians to cover 970 square miles and 13,500 people.
Marion Kiwanis Club entered record books of Kiwanis International when president Susan Robson gave birth Monday to son Zachary. Longtime Kiwanian Bud Hannaford said his research indicated it was the first time a club president had given birth to a child while in office.

Nationally renowned jazz trumpeter Mike Steinel will be featured guest artist at Emporia State University’s fifth annual gala benefit concert Oct. 5. Steinel is an associate professor of jazz at the University of North Texas. His parents are former residents, Conrad and Lois Steinel, and he is a graduate of Marion High School.

Three Republicans and one Democrat filed for the 3rd District position on the Marion County Commission. Republican primary candidates are Jack Bruner, Marquetta Eilerts, and Gary Jones. Democratic candidate is Maurice Cordell.
