Marion County Pilots Association has presented two scholarships for free flight instruction to winners in a drawing held during the county fair.

An hour each of free flight instruction has been awarded to Mike Haniger and Pam Riesen, both of Hillsboro.

The certified flight instructor will be Loren Koehn, Hillsboro.

Morgan Jones, a senior at Centre High School, is participating in work-study opportunities at three Marion businesses this semester. She will work weekday afternoons at St. Luke Hospital, Central National Bank, and the Marion County Record.

A new ramp is open at the courthouse’s south entrance. Stairs from the east and west sidewalks also lead down to the door. When an elevator and restrooms are completed, the courthouse will be fully accessible to people with disabilities.

Heartland Wireless has announced winners of door prizes at the firm’s open house in Marion. Peggy Blackman of Marion won a night’s stay for two at Country Dreams bed and breakfast. Ralph Popp of Marion won a free portrait sitting at Owens Photography, Lincolnville. Lori Tajchman and Chris McFadden, both of Marion, received T-shirts.

Virginia Downing purchased seed for burpless cucumbers at Marion True Value Hardware and planted them in her garden in Marion. She is pictured holding one she entered in this week’s Produce Derby. The cucumber is 15 inches long and measures 9 inches around.
