Voters would rather ride on rough roads than to pay more taxes. In Tuesday’s election, they voted against a proposition to authorize the board of county commissioners to levy an annual tax of not to exceed five mills for the purpose of road improvement, repair and maintenance.

The rural water district sub-committee of the Marion County Planning and Development Committee has been asked to make a study of all areas in Marion County not now in a rural water district and to ascertain the water needs in that area.

Marion High School is far from calm and quiet this week for this is the week that will determine the Cottonwood Valley League championship. The championship game will be Friday night when Marion plays at Council Grove. In an effort to build school spirit and to demonstrate support of the football team, the Pep Club has declared this week “Warrior Week.”

The special Children’s Developmental Center at Marion will be opening soon. Next week is the official opening date.
