Another new business opened in Marion this week. Steve Collett has returned home to continue his career in the heating and air conditioning business. His new business is located in the building at 201 South Coble.

Sheriff June Jost received a letter this week from the Kansas Department of Corrections stating that the Marion County Jail is “unsanitary, unsafe, and contains numerous fire hazards which could be a detriment to human life.” The problem of the jail deficiencies was discussed by the county commissioners in session Monday, but no action was taken.

Marion High School cheer leaders for the football season are Terri Friesen, Cindy Harris, Lori Harris, Rhonda Williams and Kathy Edmunds.

Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Anderson announce the engagement of their daughter, Sandra Kay, to Roger Wayne Jackson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Max Jackson, also of Marion. The wedding date has been set for Jan. 3 at Valley United Methodist Church.

Michelle Bina celebrated her 9th birthday with a party at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Laverne Bina. Invited guests were Melissa Krispense, Julie Gooding, Tomi Monroe, Sherry Schlehuber, Marnie Bina, Sherri Winkler, Leann Snelling, Ann Marie Waner, and Machelle Makeen. Also present were Michelle’s siblings Sheri, Brenda, Angela, and Michael.
