The City of Marion has been designated an official Kansas Bicentennial Community. Among the Bicentennial activities listed in the application were the restoration of the Elgin Hotel, the Avenue of Flags, restoration of the Ehrlich Mill, the Marion County Historical Museum, Old Settlers Day, Marion County Lake arts and crafts show, flea-market, new tennis courts, construction of the dike around Marion, and Central Park beautification.
The cast of the play,
“Marlin the Magnificent,” to be presented in Central Park Aug. 15 and 16, includes Dennis Schafers, Gail MacMahon, Janet Bryant, Margaret Wilson, and Feebie Smith. Fritz Davis of Mulvane will play the part of Marlin. Mr. and Mrs. Jim McPheeters are directors of the production.

The Aulne United Methodist Church will celebrate 100 years of service August 3 on “Centennial Sunday.” All those with ties to the church should mark the date on their calendar of upcoming events.
