The City of Marion received authorization from the Kansas Water Resources Board last Thursday to seek rights-of-way and to begin in actuality the Marion flood control project.

The Ernest Holub family took to heart Sunday, the Family Reunion Day proclaimed by Kiwanis International and Freedoms Foundation at Valley Forge, hosting a “Hawaiian Luau” for over 100 family members.

Electors in Marion Unified School District 408 will go to the polls in both Florence and Marion Tuesday to decide whether or not to construct two new buildings and to do extensive renovation and remodeling on others in the district. The new buildings will include a cafeteria at Florence and a vocational education building at Marion.

Entries in this week’s Produce Derby are as follows: Weldon Deines, Herington, 2-pound 2-ounce cucumber, 12¼ inches long; Verna Propp, rural Marion, 2½-pound, 17-inch cucumber and 1½ pound potato; Kathy Winter Silhan, Pilsen, king-size carrot big enough for a rabbit named Harvey. Mrs. Larry Maltbie, Marion, brought in the king of cucumbers. She had a 24 inch Armenian cucumber weighing 4½ pounds.

Cecil Carrier, well-known television personality and weatherman at station KTVH in Wichita, will be the speaker Sept. 25 at the annual St. Luke Hospital Auxiliary meeting.
