A new bakery, the Staff of Life, is in process of getting open for business with increasing customer traffic each day. Rolf Penner and Tom Pietruszka are partners in the new venture.

A quarter section of land belonging to Marion USD 408 was sold at auction Thursday for $380 per acre to Darrell Helmer. The 160 acres of land had been left as a bequest to the Youngtown school district many years ago and has been leased for farming and crop growing until now.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Beaston entertained the “Our Town” cast and director with a party at their home following the performance Saturday evening.

A page in this issue is devoted to Thanksgiving letters written by third grade students of Mrs. Richard Meysing and Steve Hart at Marion Elementary School. Students contributing are Carey Jost, Scott Heidebrecht, Michelle McKeever, Joey Keller, Melanie Druse, Chris Meierhoff, Tammy Krich, Mike Jordan, Michael Waner, Chris Webb, Leann Snelling, and Melissa Krispense.

Two students from Marion are among the 68 selected as members of the Collegiate Choral at Kansas State University. They are Mary Lou Bowers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Bowers, and Sharon Kroupa daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Kroupa.

The possibility of completing the Elgin House project is strong, with hopes high that the required $275,000 in Industrial Revenue Bonds will be pledged soon.
