Board of Education members of Marion-Florence schools evidently are meeting with a great deal of opposition in their efforts to purchase two homes, which adjoin the high school. The effort is being made in an attempt to increase the size of the parking lot around the high school and gymnasium complex.

Mr. and Mrs. Mick Summervill of Marion were named the “Star Kansas Young Farm Family” for the year at the annual convention of Kansas Young Farmers and Farm Wives in Topeka Friday and Saturday.

When Roger Giesbrecht isn’t busy with pigs and hogs on his “Oink, Oink Acres” near the Chase County line straight east of Marion, he’s hard at work putting up wood. Giesbrecht sells cord wood to the ever-increasing number of people who have fireplaces or stoves. With gas prices on the increase, many have taken to burning wood not only for enjoyment, but also to cut down on gas consumption.

The Marion High School pompon squad will perform this Friday night at half time during the A-team boys’ game with Herington at Marion Gymnasium. This is the first year for a pompon organization at the local high school. Girls involved are Donna Sherbert, Karen Stevens, Paula Vinduska, Wanda Ireland, Shelley Cowan, Lynn Colburn, Nancy Wood, and Gail Brunner.

Mike and Don Vinduska of Lincolnville are winners for south central Kansas in the 1975 Kansas Soybean Yield Contest sponsored by Cargill, Inc. Their yield was 56 bushels per acre.
