Marion’s Bicentennial project of the week was a cattle drive through town Friday afternoon. Steve Jost brought a herd of cattle down Main Street, including a Texas Longhorn steer. The so-called ‘lead steer” had been imported for the drive, but preferred to stay in the middle of the bunch.
The Elgin bond drive is a success. Ira Newcomer, chairman of the solicitation committee, said Wednesday that enough pledges had been signed to assure construction of the Elgin House 23-unit apartment complex.
Autumn Renee Kaufman and Carl Kemper Chisholm exchanged wedding vows and rings February 28 at Trinity Mennonite Church in Hillsboro.
The MHS senior boys’ quartet comprised of Rick Just, David Colburn, Kevin Fruechting, and Tim Zerger presented a program March 2 at a meeting of the Over 50 group.
Girl Scout Troop 60 met at their leader’s home March 2 and elected the following officers: Lisa Hess, president; Cindy Heerey, vice president; Melissa Robinson, secretary; Marie Druse, scribe; Shawn Dalke, song leader.
As soon as the weather permits, Leon Hajek of the Lost Springs area will be tearing down a house that is well over one hundred years old. The house is known to be the first house plastered in the county of Marion. This house is located on the farm that once was owned by Hajek’s father, the late Raymond Hajek.
Jeff Brewer, Marion’s enthusiastic young vocal music instructor, told Kiwanians on Monday about his plans for programs in the future.
