Freight cars scattered like toys east of Durham Friday night when an eastbound Rock Island train left the tracks and 23 cars were derailed. There were no injuries and no estimate was given as to the amount of damages.

Making use of new equipment, inventive ideas and a new setting, Marion Community Arts Council will present its third annual dinner theater Feb. 22 in the County Lake Hall.

Mike Ehrlich of Marion and Kenn Wealand of Cedar Point, Marion County 4-H members, were among finalists chosen Saturday to compete in the showing and fitting contest at the National Western Livestock Show held in Denver Jan. 11.

“Marion, Kansas: 1973” is the caption of a photograph featured in a new book titled “Commonplace, published by Dutton. The St. Louis Globe Democrat recently reviewed the book and the picture of Marion was used to give an example of what the book is like. It was taken in front of Oelschlager’s and shows the south side of the block from Marion Hardware toward the east.
