Marion High School’s annual Queen of Courts homecoming event will be Friday night when the Warriors host Council Grove. Queen candidates are Teri Willingham, Teresa Costello, and Lisa Brose.
Brad Turk, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Turk, is serving aboard the Navy’s newest nuclear-powered guided missile frigate, the USS South Carolina. Seaman Apprentice Turk took part in the commissioning ceremonies Jan. 25 at Norfolk.
Seven women received awards for bowling over 200 in the recent Marion City Women’s Bowling Tournament. There were Sue Bezdek, Hazel Pontious, Donna Hayen, JoAnn Keller, Tillie Schafers, Pat Oller, and Leona Grentz.
Franklin Harms, Hillsboro optometrist, joined 16 other professional people in a team that left for Haiti on Wednesday of this week on a VOSH (Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity) project. The team of optometrists, ophthalmologists, and opticians expects to see several thousand patients. About 3,000 pairs of glasses are being taken along, most of them donated.
