Marion is one of 14 Kansas towns being considered for two “Pacemaker” community awards. Announcement of the two winning towns will be made June 26 at Topeka.

Business is so good at Kasper Draperies that they are putting on a second shift. Mrs. Ralph (Leona) Kasper says the custom drapery business has been snowballing since the firm moved to Marion a few weeks ago. Formally located at Lehigh, they moved through the efforts of Marion Investors, Inc.

Residents of Hilltop Manor took an excursion last week through the Flint Hills via chartered bus. The group visited K-State where they toured an artificial breeding unit and ate lunch at the Student Union. They then traveled to Ft. Riley where a guide met them and took them on a historical tour of the fort.

Karen White and Jandee Smith qualified, when they competed May 24 at Derby, for the state Junior Olympics to be held this Friday at Manhattan

Pam Griffith, bride-elect of John Klenda, was guest of honor May 27 at a pottery shower at the Dean C. Batt residence. Hostesses were Debbi Case Darrow and Shelley Batt.

Wladyslaw Gmyz, Pawel Grabowski, Janina Kapis, Grazyna Dabrowski and Jerry Maywald were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Higgins and Kazik Zajac. Everyone, including Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hett, enjoyed a dance at Starlite Ballroom Saturday night. Many songs from their home country of Poland were played.
