Residents of Marion County faced a familiar threat Sunday as heavy rains caused flash flood warnings to be issued throughout the county. Although some stores sandbagged their fronts and most of Marion residents were on the scene to survey the rising water, the swollen stream for the most part caused little damage.

Marion area kids have shown little interest in the movies being offered locally and sponsored by the KanzAton Junior Club, but at least one more showing will be held. The Walt Disney movie,
“Shaggy Dog,” will be shown Wednesday, July 9. If no more show up for this movie than in the past, the project will be stopped.

Damages from high winds and a tornado, the week of June 15, totaled $1,000 at Marion Reservoir’s Cottonwood Point.

Two Marion men won Gates Rubber Co. “mystery car” awards last week when the mystery motorist was in town. Wint Smith of Wint’s 66 Service and Mike Regnier at Marion Auto Supply received plaques bearing three Eisenhower Silver Dollars and two Kennedy half-dollars. They were presented the awards for exceptional customer service.

Five sluggers, Gary Boyle, John Holub, Jay Smith, Doug Heerey, and Van Kerns, are hitting over .500 for the Senior Babe Ruth team. Leading pitcher is Holub with three wins.

Radios in the sheriff’s office took a beating last week. They were knocked out by lightning during the tornado on Monday, then were hit again Sunday just before the flood scare.
