Marion Kiwanis Club has purchased a 12’ x 16’ movie screen to be used in Marion Municipal Auditorium. It will be utilized for the travelogue series of movies next winter.

Seven carloads of officers swooped down on a farm house three miles east of Goessel Tuesday, armed with a search warrant and working on a tip that the place was a big distribution center for illegal drugs. A large supply of drugs was found in various places on the premises, along with drug paraphernalia. The dealer was arrested when he arrived at the scene.

Carol Bowers Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Bowers of Marion, has been awarded the James J. Ryan Scholarship for students in medicine at the University of Kansas Medical Center. She is the second Marion County student to win the scholarship.

The annual Cub Scout bicycle derby was held July 8 in Central Park. First through third place winners, according to age group and in order of their finish, were: 8-year-olds—Billy Shirley, Rod Jirak, Jeff Burkholder; 9-year-olds—Mitch Carlson, Tim Jirak, Greg Brandli; 10-year-old—Mike Schmidtberger.
