As Marion plans the celebration of receiving the PRIDE Pacemaker Award, the front page is mainly devoted to the history of the program that spans six years and steps taken to attain the award. PRIDE ribbons won to receive this award are in community development, economic development, community services, utilities, transportation, housing, education, and enrichment.

The “Personality Profile” section this week features Dorothy Varenhorst, prominent in the PRIDE program activities, local businesswoman, and community activist.

Bob Hett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hett of Marion, is on tour in the southwest states with the Singing Quakers of Friends University.

The Marion CYO volleyball team won the Region 3 tournament Sunday at Marion Gymnasium and will compete next Sunday in the diocesan tournament at Wichita. Team members include Jamie Richmond, Jackie Richmond, Becky Vinduska, Debbie Vinduska, Sherri Kelly, Doug Webb, Jay Smith, Doug Heerey, Darrel Waner, Bill Turk and Kevin Jirak.

Ann Christensen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Christensen, will take part in a three-day concert tour with the 48-member Tabor College band. Christensen, who plays clarinet, is a freshman at Tabor.
