Dust off your playing board and sharpen your skills, the second annual Marion Tiddly Winks tournament will be held May 24. Debbie Kreutzman was declared winner of last year’s tournament and received the “national championship” trophy. Scott Heidebrecht took second.
Phyllis Melton, widow of the late Dr. R.R. Melton, has been selected as a Kansas Merit Mother by the Kansas Mothers Association. Lillian Pierce, also of Marion, who was the Kansas Mother of the Year in 1969, and Mrs. Ernest W. (Agnes) Bina of rural Marion, who was a Kansas Merit Mother last year, accompanied Mrs. Melton to Topeka.
Kelly Bartlett of Marion High School took first place in typing at the CVL business skills contest held Saturday in Herington. Ann Bryant took third place in shorthand competition. Marion High School placed third in the league, overall. Other students participating were Jan Bryant, Deb Hett, Cindy Heerey, Linda Williams, Jami Shirley, Mary Medina and Patti Medina.
John Sandwell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Sandwell of Marion has been appointed as general sales manager of WFIE-TV in Evansville, Ind.
State Senator John Crofoot is pictured in the governor’s office with Jeff Conyers and Marty Fredrickson. The two MHS students served as Crofoot’s pages during the recent wrap-up session of the legislature.
