Darryl Woodson, Garden City, was hired Monday night as superintendent for the Marion School District (USD 408). He replaces John Wiebe, who resigned Aug. 15.
The Marion County Record was notified this week that the newspaper has been awarded second place in general excellence, nationally, by the Newspaper Editorial Workshop Services (NEWS).
Cub Scouts of Den 1 visited the Marion County Record office Tuesday afternoon to learn how the newspaper is published. Scouts present were Andy Waner, Kevin Wheatley, Ravelo Harris, William Davis, Dustin Pippin, Chris Loveless, Charles Smithhart and also their den mother, Joyce Ford.
Marion High School class of 1959 has presented a new flag for use at Marion Stadium. The class purchased the flag and Donna (Kelsey) Hayen and Beverly (Bredemeier) Jirak presented it to Coach Tom Reynolds Monday.
Rhonda Williams and Bradley Heerey were united in marriage August 15 in the Florence Christian Church.
The Produce Derby entry this week is peaches brought in by Mable Matz. Five dozen of the choice fruit grew on her volunteer peach tree this summer.
Denice Bina entered two decorated cakes in the competition at the Kansas State Fair. Her wedding cake placed third and her cake, in the man’s hobby division, cleverly decorated as a can of Copenhagen snuff, placed second.
