The county commission, on Monday, discussed fire damage to the county jail following a May 19 blaze. The fire destroyed 14 blankets and four old mattresses, according to Sheriff June Jost.

Mike Wood of Emporia, formerly of Marion, took first place and Jim Richmond of Marion finished second at the Kansas Long Drive Golf Championship Saturday at Pawnee Prairie Golf Course in Wichita. Don Bredemeier finished sixth in the competition.

Ron Wineinger is becoming accustomed to the title “president.” He was named Kansas FFA president last week, is South Central Kansas FFA district president, president of the local MHS chapter, and was president of his senior class.

David Nelson, who spent six months traveling through
East and Southeast Asia, as well as through Australia and New Zealand, will be showing slides of his trip June 7 and 8 at Hebron Lutheran Church in Burdick.

Marion County Lake resident Dale Koegeboehn is the subject of this week’s “Personality Profile.” Koegeboehn is on the city planning commission and the Marion County Lake Improvement District board. He is a member of the Marion Chamber of Commerce, Chat and Dine Club, Eastmoor United Methodist Church, and is involved in the many projects of Marion Builders, Inc.

Les and Celia Byer have been invited to display their artwork June 13-15 at the Smokey Hill River Festival in Salina.
