A search for the tallest bluestem stalk in the area by Marion-Florence FFA has been won by Don Hett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willard Hett of Marion. Don’s final entry reached 9 feet 9 inches.
Mr. and Mrs. Francis May hosted a dinner Sunday in honor of the marriage of Donna Casey and Stan May, which occurred Saturday.
Staff Sgt. George A. Coe, stationed at Fort Rucker, Alabama, with the 1st Aviation Brigade, was chosen as the top enlisted man for November. The son of Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Coe, he is a 1971 graduate of Marion High School.
Chefs Ken Spring, Roger Hannaford III, and Ted Haefner are pictured as they set another layer of steaks on the grill alongside the city building. In all, the workers turned out 540 steaks in less than 90 minutes to farmers and ranchers at the Chamber’s annual steak fry.
The County Seat, Marion furniture and floor covering store, has announced the grand opening of its Armstrong Carpet Studio this week. Steve Widler and Brad Wildin, partners in the business, said they feel fortunate that their store was selected by Armstrong to be designated as one of their authorized carpet studios.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward J. Costello entertained their Tampa State Bank employees and spouses in Kansas City Saturday and Sunday. They attended the American Royal and the musical concert, “Alabama.”
