Seven farmers’ daughters will compete Sept. 14 for the Kansas FFA Sweetheart title. The seven finalists include Patricia Jo Kjellin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kjellin of Marion. She is sponsored by the Marion FFA Chapter.

Bill Meyer, editor of the Marion County Record, is one of 100 Kansans selected by Governor Robert Docking to serve on the Citizen’s Conference on Kansas Courts. The conference will meet in Manhattan to conduct a study offering suggestions to improve Kansas courts.

Congressman Bill Roy, Democrat candidate for U.S. Senator, has appointed Tampa banker Ed Costello as Marion County coordinator for the Kansas Agricultural committee for his campaign.

Mrs. Ed Riffel of Lost Springs accepted Bill Beneke’s challenge and brought in a giant cucumber, which weighs over 3½ pounds and is 20 inches long. Other entries in the annual Record produce derby this week included a giant 7½-pound cantaloupe grown by Mr. and Mrs. Les Gilbert of Marion and a 12-pound zucchini squash brought in by Mrs. Rocky Hett.
