The energy crisis has hit this area hard, Five retail outlets that were open a few short months ago, many of them selling petroleum products at cut-rate prices, are now closed. The five remaining stations, Champlin, Conoco, Mobil, Phillips and Co-Op must attempt to supply gasoline to local motorists under curtailed quotas.

The first baby of 1974 is Angela Irene Bina, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Laverne Bina of rural Marion. She was born Friday at St. Luke Hospital.
Three officials of the Kansas Fish and Game Department spent 24 hours below the dam at Marion Lake over the past weekend. They arrested four persons for snagging fish. This brings the fish snaggers caught at that spot in two weeks up to seven persons.
Navy Seaman Recruit Wayne S. Hoffman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Hoffman, rural Marion, graduated from recruit training at the Naval Training Center in Orlando, Fla. A 1970 graduate of Florence High School, he is scheduled to report to Machinist Mate’s school at San Diego.
Tabor College students from Marion are among those involved in various “interterm” projects during the month of January. They are freshman Barry Seifert, sophomore Judy Kreutziger, and senior Terry Conyers.
