The year 1974 has been officially designated “Turkey Red Hard Winter Wheat Centennial Year” according to House Concurrent Resolution 1014. The resolution was passed by the legislative bodies and signed by the governor. It marks the centennial observance of the introduction of hard winter wheat to Kansas.

A full summer of enthusiastic competition ended in a thrilling climax at Ellsworth last week when the Tampa Legion ball club won the Kansas championship. Team members are Jim Richmond, Rick Erickson, Alan Mueller, Mike Dvorak, Tim Kerbs, Gary Holub, Bob Hett, Clark Strecker, Sid Robinson, Don Bredemeier, and Jack Loomis. Glenn Kerbs is the manager and Joe Ragole, coach.

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ewert have taken over operation of Al’s Standard Station at the corner of Main and Cedar streets. Formerly operated by Mr. and Mrs. Albert Stenzel, the station has long been a familiar business in Marion.

Marion County Commissioners in regular session Monday voted to allocate $3,000 out of federal revenue sharing funds to the City of Lincolnville for a new city building there.
