A lone finger, the tower of the Rural Water District No. 1, points skyward, rising above the bluestem prairie just west of K-15 to remind passing motorists of an ample water supply. Isaac Wiebe, dairyman, is credited with being the prime mover of the project. Others kept the dream alive.
Two area students at Kansas State University were among those whose scholarships in music were renewed this fall. They are Keith Collett and Sharon Kroupa, both of Marion.
Conrad Steely, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Steely, Burdick, has been appointed assistant manager of branch operations for Columbia Pictures. He has been office manager of the New York branch office. He is now in the home office on Fifth Avenue in New York City and will be over 20 branch offices located all across the country.
Lou Wegerer, one of the few freshmen football players to see action in the Big Eight conference during 1972, returns this fall to the K-State line-up with an excellent chance to become the starting defensive end. Wegerer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Wegerer of Marion, is an animal science and industry major.
When Mrs. Ella Socolofsky observed her 80th birthday August 23, her five daughters held an open house at the Rosse Case home in Marion. Her daughters are Mrs. Earl (Jean) Baumgartner, Derby; Mrs. William (Jane) Course, Monrovia, Calif.; Mrs. Moyne (June) Lichlyter, Santa Barbara, Calif.; Mrs. Lawrence (Joy) Norvell, Manhattan; and Mrs. Rosse (Janice) Case, Marion.
The Youth Action Corps will sponsor a dance this Saturday in the American Legion building in Marion.
