Fences are up and the parking lot has been coated with a new layer of gravel. Marion Stadium is ready for the first home football game this Friday when the Warriors host Chase County. The new chain-link security fence replaces the hedge, which was removed.

Miss America 1968, Debbie Barnes Miles, was in Marion Saturday night. She was here to give testimony of her personal religious beliefs to those attending the God Squad crusade meeting at Marion City Building.

Dale Nuss and Gary and Mike Ehrlich of Marion won some top honors with their cattle at Mid-America Fair in Topeka. Dale’s Shorthorn heifer took second place and his lightweight crossbred steer took seventh. Gary’s shorthorn steer took fifth and Mike’s placed 13th in the middleweight crossbred classification.

Marion Motor Center this week is getting a new front. Reuben Zerger is the contractor for the improvements, which include a new shingled awning on the north and east front, polished stone sidewalk, and a new aluminum and glass front door. Owner Gerry Harris has also installed new interior lighting and redecorated the showroom.

Albert V. Pierce, former superintendent for Skelly Oil Company at Stafford, has retired after more than 40 years of service. Pierce and his wife, Clara, have purchased a home at 1310 East Main in Marion.
