Principal Martin Tice has announced that two Marion High School students have been named semifinalists in the 1974 National Merit Scholarship Program. They are Joni Clarice Kroupa, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Kroupa of rural Marion, and Patrick Ray Robinson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Claire A. Robinson of rural Cedar Point.
Eugene Just of the Aulne community, south of Marion, has won the 1973 Kansas adult champion sheep-shearing award at Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson. Just has won the award before. He also was champion sheep shearer in 1971. The 1972 champion also was from Marion County. He was Jerry Suderman of Hillsboro.
The Cultural Arts Council of the PRIDE committee will sponsor an organ recital featuring Diane Bish Oct. 10 at Eastmoor United Methodist Church.
Dean Pippin has purchased the former Standard gas station at the corner of Main and Cedar from Mr. and Mrs. Harold Ewert. He plans to operate his State Farm insurance agency from the new location after he completes remodeling the building.
Denice Helmer, last year’s FFA Sweetheart, announced the selection of this year’s sweetheart, Patti Kjellin, during Friday night’s first home game. Carla Stovall was selected as first runner-up.
Rose Holm, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Holm, Burns, has been awarded the James A. Wheeler Memorial Scholarship provided by Hospital District No. 1 Auxiliary in memory of the late Dr. Wheeler.
