Dr. Tomas Guerra, 40, arrived in Marion Tuesday. He plans to set up private practice at St. Luke Medical Clinic. Dr. Guerra recently completed a residency in New York City where he specialized in internal medicine. His wife, Louisa, and two daughters, aged 4 and 1½, will join him here later after he gets settled.
Three candidates have been nominated for homecoming queen at Marion High School. They are Gayle Hannaford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Hannaford; Kathy Kelsey, daughter of Mrs. Don Kelsey; and Denice Helmer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Helmer.
Roxann Hague, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Willard Hague, Marion, is practice teaching at Peabody High School. While doing so, she is staying with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Nicklaus. Roxann is a student at KSTC, Emporia.
This Saturday will mark the 62nd annual Old Settlers’ Day celebration in Marion. The people and businessmen of Marion again invite their friends, relatives and neighbors to the traditional event. Old Settlers’ Day actually will get started Friday night when Marion High School hosts Herington at Marion Stadium. It will be the annual homecoming classic with all the festivities.
Dean Pippin, local agent for State Farm Insurance, will be honored at a national convention to be held at Las Vegas, Nevada, the first week in October. Pippin is a current member of the President’s Club, an organization comprised of agents who had done outstanding work in the sale of health insurance.
