Marion’s Main Street was covered with up to three feet of water on the streets Thursday afternoon and up to two feet in some business locations. The river’s crest at 6:30 p.m. was 25.05 feet at the marker at the bridge. Banks of Mud Creek washed away with some householders losing as much as 50 feet of back yard to the rushing waters. Mayor Jack Regnier said damage to the banks of Mud Creek in Marion is “beyond estimate” in dollars and cents. At places along the creek, damage is so great observers can hardly believe their eyes.
Thomas C. Ensey, M.D., Marion, has been named a Fellow of the Academy of Family Physicians. The Academy, representing more than 34,000 family doctors, is the only national medical group requiring members to take continuing study, a minimum of 150 accredited hours every three years.
Mrs. Earl (Eloise) Mueller, Marion, received a $500 check from Governor Robert Docking at the third annual PRIDE awards program Tuesday evening. The award was for second place in the 1,500 to 4,000 population category. Lindsborg won first place and was the sweepstakes winner for the state.
The Marion Cemetery Board took action this week to prohibit Sunday burials at the Marion cemetery. This action, long in coming, is in keeping with the policy of most other cemetery associations.
